Social Media

When implementing social media technologies, one may encounter compliance issues such as privacy laws, content ownership, and intellectual property infringement. Risk management comes into play with social media. It requires incorporating social media into internal policies and procedures. Legal documents must be drawn giving permission to use employee’s photos. Also, documents must be drawn to ensure clarity of who has ownership of the content which is posted. Security is another risk which is taken when using social media in within an organization. Employees need to be trained on the acceptable use policy to minimize unintended malicious posts and mistakes. The social media policy needs to make clear the potential risks involved. Record keeping and a retention policy on posts along with audit logs on the server should be sufficient to meet regulation requirements if there is a questionable post or acquisition.
